The southernmost corner of the bay is also the lowest energy, as well as the focus for the summer floods from Splitters and Branch Creeks. The end result is an extensive, 2 to 3 km wide, low-lying mangrove swamp, fronted by two low, low energy barrier islands - namely Splitters Creek and Branch Creek Beaches.
Branch Creek beach (936) is a similar low strip of sand up to 2.5 km long, backed by mangroves, and also fronted by the ridged sand flats. In places the beach has been washed away and eroding mangroves form the shoreline.
