Hayman Island is located 28 km north-east of Shute Harbour and is the northernmost of the Whitsunday Island group. The island is surrounded by marine park and, while not part of the national park, the island remains in a relatively natural state, with the Hayman Island Resort located behind one of the four island beaches. The island has an area of 300 ha, with 8.5 km of shoreline. The centre of the island rises 250 m to Mount Carousel and its slopes are surrounded by predominantly rocky shore, with the four beaches occupying only 2 km of the shoreline. Blue Pearl Bay is a 1 km long, west facing bay on the north-west side of the island. It is a popular anchorage owing to its protection from the Trades. At the foot of its steep, vegetated slopes are two small sandy beaches, both fronted by coral reefs. The southern beach (HAY3) is 250 m long, faces north to north-west and consists of a narrow, sandy high tide beach, then 200 m wide reef flats. The northern beach (HAY4) faces more westerly and is similar in nature, with reef flats extending about 100 m off the beach. While it is possible to walk to these beaches, they are easiest to access by boat at high tide.
Beach Length: 0.25km
