Hayman Island is located 28 km north-east of Shute Harbour and is the northernmost of the Whitsunday Island group. The island is surrounded by marine park and, while not part of the national park, the island remains in a relatively natural state, with the Hayman Island Resort located behind one of the four island beaches. The island has an area of 300 ha, with 8.5 km of shoreline. The centre of the island rises 250 m to Mount Carousel and its slopes are surrounded by predominantly rocky shore, with the four beaches occupying only 2 km of the shoreline. Rescue Point beach (HAY1) is the northernmost beach on the island and is located on the north-eastern shore, between the northern Tower Point and Rescue Point, 1.5 km north-east of the resort. It is a 400 m long, north-east facing beach that curves gently between the two points. It consists of a moderately steep, sandy high tide beach, fronted by coral reef flats extending up to 100 m off the beach at low tide. The beach is bordered by jagged rocks on the points and backed by moderately steep, sparsely wooded slopes. The only access is on foot from the resort or by boat at high tide.
