Queens Beach (950) is Bowen’s main northern beach and occupies 4.5 km of Queens Bay, a relatively open, north to north-east facing bay located between the western mouth of the Don River and rocky Cape Edgecumbe. The beach lies just 2 km north-west of Bowen town centre and the suburbs of Queens Beach and Edgecumbe Heights back its west and eastern shores respectively. In addition to the beachfront houses, there are caravan parks in the centre and at the western end of the beach, with golf links in between. The houses are fronted by a wide foreshore reserve, a narrow high tide beach and then a low tide bar. The bar is 100 m wide in the north, widening to become ridged sand flats several hundred metres in width, in the more protected east (Fig. 2.15a).
