The main cape beach (1048) commences on the west side of the cape and runs north for 3 km to a protruding sand foreland formed in lee of the Waldgrave Islands, and then on for another 1 km to a small calcarenite bluff. The cape road runs out to a large car park and boat launching area located 1 km north of the cape, with only 4WD access to the northern beach. While stable dunes backs the southern half of the beach active dunes extends up to 400 in from the northern half. The beach commences as a calm shoreline fronted by seagrass covered and flats which extends all the way to East Island 800 m offshore, and along the beach as far as the foreland. Beyond the foreland waves slowly increases and break across a narrow attached bar.
