Umpherstone Bay is an open, south facing 3 km long bay containing continuous rock reefs across the mouth of the bay. The reefs extend up to 1 km off the beach and lower waves to near zero at the shoreline producing a low usually calm beach (22) covered in seagrass. The Point Douglas road enters the centre of the beach and continues on to Point Douglas, with 4WD tracks leading off the gravel road to Middle Point and west of Point Douglas. He are approximately 50 shacks lining the centre and western shores of the bay, with their small fishing boats commonly lying at anchor off the beach.
