Number Two Rocks consists of three 20 m high calcarenite headlands and associated reefs protruding up to 500 m seaward and occupying a 2 km section of coast. The rocks break the long beach into four smaller beaches each dominated to varying degrees by the headlands, rocks and reefs. The 4WD track runs along behind the beach with access and parking in lee of each of the beaches, together with a camping area behind the second beach (47). The active dunes to either side of the rocks are moderately stable and largely vegetated in lee of the rocks. The first beach (46) extends from a prominent calcarenite reef capped by sea stacks, to the first of the Number Two headlands. It curves round between the two, facing essentially southwest. It has a low gradient beach fronted by a 200 m wide surf zone, with permanent rips running out against the reefs and headland at either end. The surf zone continues out along the northern headland with the beach narrowing to form pockets of sand beneath the 10 m high bluffs, increasingly fronted by shallow reef. This area is the most protected and only area suitable for swimming.
Beach Length: 0.7km
