Brown Beach consists of two calcarenite bluff-controlled beaches; the first (KI-37) runs for 300 m north of the car park which overlooks the beach to a 10 m high rocky bluff. On the north side of the bluff, the second beach (KI-38) continues on for another 200 m to a second low bluff. Both beaches are backed by a foredune and the Brown Beach camping area, which is nestled above the bluffs in amongst the trees. The beaches have a sandy high tide beach and bar, interspersed with low tide rock flats.
