Point Longnose beach (901) commences at the end of Seven Mile Beach, where there is a sand foreland marked by a sharp turn in the shore. The point is attached to the mainland for 2 km, before extending east as a 3.5 km long 100 m to 200 m wide vegetated low sand spit (Fog. 4.143). The spit has been slowing grown across the mouth of Port Douglas, leaving behind the remnants of up to 20 former spits, and narrowing the once 6 km wide mouth to 2 km. The main 4WD track reaches the western end of the spit, however vehicles are prohibited on the spit itself. The more exposed location of the spit, together with deeper water off the spit permits slightly higher waves to reach the shore, which maintain a reflective beach, with no sand flats.
Beach Length: 4.8km
General Hazard Rating: 2/10
