Immediately west of the break is the open south facing 1.5 km wide Cable Bay. Bluffs back the entire bay and reefs dominate the bay floor. The first two bay beaches lie immediately west of the Chinamans break. The first (388) is a straight 300 m long sand beach, backed by the bluffs and fronted by 50 m wide platform reef, with a usually small but heavy surf break.
