The bay beach (379) receives waves averaging less than a metre in the east which maintain a steep cusped beach. The waves gradually decrease to the west, permitting the seagrass to grow to the shore, finally widening into 150 m wide sand flats south of the jetty in lee of Penguin Point.

Swimming

Both beaches are relatively safe, with deeper water off the bay beach in the east, while at Marion Bay shallow flats front the shore.

Surfing

Both usually have only low shorebreaks, however there are good waves over the reefs west of Penguin Point during higher swell.

Fishing

The Meehan Hill and Penguin Point car parks provide access for beach fishing, while at the settlement, the jetty is the most popular shore-based location.

General

Marion Bay is the largest settlement on the south coast and offers a limited range of facilities and accommodation, including a caravan park.
