Lavinia Beach (KI 8) commences at the end of the rocks and trends relatively straight for 6.2 km to a major sandy foreland at Lavinia Point. The beach faces northeast and receives waves averaging over 1 m which maintain a relatively steep sandy beach fronted by a 50 m wide low tide terrace to occasional transverse bar and rips (Fig. 4.193). It is backed by a mixture of dunes, which are low and 500 m wide in the north, up to 45 m high along the centre where they are backed by Lake Martha Lavinia and Pennys Lagoon, and widen to 1.5 km in lee of Lavinia Point, where they are backed by 5 km of wetlands, all part of the nature reserve. The beach is accessible in the centre along the Martha Lavinia Road, which leads to a car park just behind the beach.
