The Pass River runs due west between dune fields for 6 km to reach the shore in a small curving 200 m wide embayment. Beach KI 70 is located at the mouth of the river and curves for 200 m between the boundary granite points. The beach faces due west but is sheltered by reefs extending 500 m off either side, together with a fringe of reefs along the base of the beach, with a sandy seafloor in the centre of the bay. It is backed by a low foredune the northern side of the small river, then vegetated dunes extending 2.5 km inland.
