Fraser Beach (KI 11) commences at the sandy foreland and curves slightly to the south for 7 km to the small mouth of the Fraser River at Naracoopa (Fig. 4.194). The beach faces due east and receives easterly wind waves averaging over 1 m which maintain a low tide terrace to transverse bar and rip, with numerous small rips cutting across the 50 m wide bar during periods of higher waves. The beach is backed by a 500 m wide regressive barrier consisting of several foredune ridges, backed by a discontinuous wetland and the Sea Elephant Road, and crossed by four small creeks including Eldorado and Rocky creeks, the latter deflected 1 km to the south. The Fraser River drains the rising Precambrian sedimentary slopes that dominate the southeast corner of the island. It enters the sea at the southern end of the beach against the first outcrop of the rocks at the shore. The small community of Naracoopa backs the southern end of the beach and occupies the gently sloping bedrock immediately south of the river mouth. The Fraser River Road follows the lower section of the river to reach the river mouth and settlement, with 4WD beach access in the north off the Sea Elephant Road.
