Past Smythe Creek, the coast continues to the south-west. The generally rocky shore is backed by the lower, largely cleared slopes and the Great Ocean Road. Rock platforms and reefs dominate the shore, however a strip of sand runs along the back of the platforms, and forms three beach areas, with waves averaging 1.5 m off the platforms. All three beaches are readily accessible from the road. Beach 371 is 1 km long and begins just past Smythe Creek. It is backed in places by a low foredune and fronted by a broad intertidal rock platform, which truncates jagged beds of sandstone and shale. The platform is exposed at low tide. On either side of Browns Creek is a 1 km strip of sand and boulders also fronted by broad, irregular intertidal rock platforms, with occasional gullies in the rocks. Beach 373 is a shorter, 200 m strip of sand and boulders right beside the road. It is fronted by a sloping rock platform. read more
