Between Point Sturt and Hitchcock Gully is 4 km of steep, forested slopes, with the Great Ocean Road winding along about 20 m above the bordering rock platforms. In amongst the rocks, and behind them in places, are seven generally small sand beaches, each dominated to some degree by the rock platforms and reefs. They all tend to face south-east, exposing them to waves averaging 1 to 1.5 m. Access to all the beaches requires a climb down the bluffs from the road, with parking limited to the side of the road.
Point Sturt South 2 is another platform beach, with a deeper gully against the southern rocks, which at low tide forms a tidal pool.
