Between Point Sturt and Hitchcock Gully is 4 km of steep, forested slopes, with the Great Ocean Road winding along about 20 m above the bordering rock platforms. In amongst the rocks, and behind them in places, are seven generally small sand beaches, each dominated to some degree by the rock platforms and reefs. They all tend to face south-east, exposing them to waves averaging 1 to 1.5 m. Access to all the beaches requires a climb down the bluffs from the road, with parking limited to the side of the road.Point Sturt South 2 is another platform beach, with a deeper gully against the southern rocks, which at low tide forms a tidal pool.

Swimming

All these beaches are dominated by moderate to high waves, rocks, reefs and rips and are unsuitable for bathing. Only at low tide is it safe to swim in some of the protected tidal pools.

Surfing

The only break of note along this section is Sawmills, located adjacent to an old sawmill site. It is a right hand reef break that can handle big swell.

Fishing

There are many good rock and beach fishing sites along here. However, care is required on the rock platforms, which are awash at high tide and during large waves.

General

Most people drive along here unaware of the small beaches, which are best left to the knowledgable locals.
