Gibson Steps provide one of the few access points to a beach along this cliff dominated section of coast. The beach is backed by a 20 to 30 m high, sheer limestone cliff. Next to the cliff-top car park, steps were cut by an early fisherman into the soft limestone to provide access to the beach.
The beach is 1.1 km long and faces south-west, receiving waves averaging over 1.5 m. The eastern half of the beach has a normal, 200 m wide surf zone usually with two large rips. The western half toward the Twelve Apostles not only narrows, as it winds below the increasingly high cliffs, but is fronted by more continuous reefs. These reefs lower waves at the beach.
Beach Length: 1.1km
