East of Portarlington, The Esplanade follows the coast for 10 km to The Bluff, with a continuous foreshore reserve between the road and the shore. There are ten low energy beaches in this section, all with excellent access and are backed by a grassy reserve. The first three are small pockets of sand below 5 m high bluffs, with low, rocky reefs bordering each beach. They are located 1 km east of Portarlington and lie either side of Steele Trig station, and all face north. The first beach (Steeles West) is 200 m long and is backed by sloping grassy bluffs. Steeles Beach is 150 m long, with a boat ramp and an informal parking area on flat land below the bluff; while Steeles East is narrow and backed by eroding bluffs. All three are usually calm or have low waves, and are fronted by scattered rock reefs and 100 to 200 m wide rock and sand flats.
