At Cape Reamur, the coast swings to the north-west and begins the 50 km long, sweeping arc that becomes Portland Bay. The first 10 km between the cape and Yambuk Inlet are dominated by calcarenite rocks and reefs, interspersed with 11 beaches. The first of these beaches begins right at the cape and runs for 1.7 km to the north-west. The nearest vehicle access is at The Craigs, 2.5 km to the west. McKechnie Craig Beach is exposed to the westerly winds and waves, however basalt reefs in the east and calcarenite reefs in the west lower the waves toward each end of the beach. As a result, only the central few hundred metres receive high waves. The beach consists of a low energy eastern arc with reefs offshore, and a high energy central-western arc with reefs to either side and a surf zone with two to three rips. Active dunes back the beach and extend up to 1.5 km inland.
Beach Length: 1.7km
