Lighthouse Beach (T 924) occupies the northern corner of Mawson Bay. The curving 700 m long beach faces southwest and is bordered to the north by West Point that extends 500 m to the west with reefs continuing seaward for another 400 m, while a 200 m wide vegetated point separates it in the south from the southern beaches (Fig. 4.183). The beach is partly sheltered by reef off the southern point, and rocks along the northern end and West Point, all of which lower waves to each end with higher waves in the centre. The waves break across a wide low gradient bar drained by permanent rips to each end, which provide access to some good beach, breaks, known as Lighthouse. A grassy foredune crossed by several foot tracks backs the beach then 500 m of vegetated transgressive dunes rising to 20 m. The gravel West Point Road runs out to the point with a car park overlooking the northern end of the beach and a vehicle track winding down to the beach.
Beach Length: 0.7km
General Hazard Rating: 7/10
