The southern end of Durras embayment is called Beagle Bay and is occupied by two beaches (NSW 523 & 514) which continue the sweep of the sandy shoreline round to Mills Point and Wasp Head (Fig. 4.368). The small community of South Durras is located behind the swamp backing the northern Cookies Beach, while Mills Beach is backed by the Murramarang caravan park. Cookies Beach (NSW 513) curves for 800 m between two low rocky point. It initially faces east and then curves round to face north against the southern rocks, with the point acting as a natural breakwater. It is backed by a continuous foredune then houses behind the northern 200 m, then a central 2 ha lake and surrounding Cookies wetland area, which drains via a small creek in the southern corner, with access to the boat ramp and picnic area in the south. Waves average about 1 m in the north decreasing to the south, usually with a rip against the northern rocks, a continuous attached bar along the beach and a reflective southern corner. Rips do however form during periods of higher waves.
