Potato Point is a headland and small community located 7 km east of the highway. The Potato Point road runs out to the point and provides access to five adjoining beaches (NSDW 585-589); the northernmost borders the dynamic mouth of Tuross Lake. The mouth can range from a narrow 50 m wide inlet, to several hundred metres following major floods. When the mouth closes to its maximum it forms a 1.2 km long beach called South Tuross (NSW 585). The beach faces due east and is well exposed to most waves which average about 1.5 m and usually maintain a well develop transverse bar and rip systems, with up to six beach rip crossing the bar, together with the inlet channel and shoals that extends up to 200 m seaward of the inlet. The beach can only be accessed in the south, and is backed by a low foredune and bare sand near the mouth. This is an isolated, exposed, rip- and inlet-dominated beach, unsuitable for swimming.
Beach Length: 1.2km
