Manly Cove occupies the northern section of North Harbour and includes the harbour-side of the famous Manly ocean beach and site of the Manly ferry terminal. The ferries from Circular Quay deliver millions of visitors and commuters to Manly Cove each year. The terminal divides the once continuous beach in half. To the east is the curving 250 m long eastern section of the cove (SH 5). It a 5 m wide, southwest-facing strip of sand backed by a continuous seawall, narrow park and road, with numerous boats moored off the beach. The western section (SH 6) trends for 230 m west of the terminal. It consists of a 10-20 m wide beach backed by a seawall and walkway (Fig. 4.223), with six sets of stairs and a western ramp leading to the beach. It usually has relatively calm waters with the eastern half protected by a shark net, and boat access to the western half. The Manly Aquarium and Museum are located immediately west of the beach.
