Point Perry is a 20 to 30 m high rocky headland that forms the southern boundary of Coolum Beach. The rocks of the headland continue in a south-east direction for 1.5 km to Point Arkwright. Along the base of the bluffs are three small, rock-bound beaches. The main road runs along the top of the bluffs, with small car parks above each. Steep tracks provide access from the car parks to each beach. Beach 1542 is closer to Point Arkwright and is a 200 m long sand beach, backed by a high tide cobble beach and 30 m high vegetated bluffs. There are numerous rocks in the surf zone and two strong permanent rips at either end.
