The northern side of Cape Thevenard forms the southern boundary of Murat Bay. Along the 2.5 km north facing cape shore are three low energy beaches. Beach 1278 is located 1 km east of the cape and consists of a high tide sand and shell beach fronted by 400 m wide sand flats, with salt marsh fringing the western end of the beach. Seaview Terrace runs along the back of the beach.
