On the north side of the slag heaps is the main 2.3 km long Wallaroo Bay beach (524), a sand beach fronted by ridged sand flats up to 400 m wide. A caravan park and beachfront houses back most of the beach. Most beach users park their cars right on the beach, and at low tide out onto the sand flats (Fig. 4.101). The beach terminates at a protruding 200 m wide rocks and reef, on the northern side of which is 700 m long north beach (525), essentially a continuation of the beach and sand flats, which is also backed by the beachfront settlement on North Beach.
