Tickera is the site of an old, now demolished wheat jetty, which used to extend several hundred meters across the tidal flats to reach deep water. Today the small settlement sits atop the 20 to 30 m high bluffs looking out across the gulf, and only a few small boats lie moored off the beach.
Three low energy beaches front the town. On the southern side, accessible by a gravel road off the main Tickera Road, is a 2.5 km long crenulate high tide sand beach (539), fronted by a mixture of rock and increasingly sand flats, which widen to 300 m in the north. The beach is backed by 20 m high bluffs, cut by a series of eight steep gullies, together with approximately ten shacks spread along the back of beach.
