Lucky Bay beach (616) begins on the western side of the tidal creek. The beach is part of a 3.1 km long protruding sands spit, that is slowly extending to the east. The spit averages about 100 m in width, with a causeway across the salt flats providing access to the 135 beachfront shacks, that occupy1.2 km of the beach. Many of the shacks are at risk from undercutting by the dynamic spit. A worse site could not have been chosen to build ‘permanent’ shacks so close to the shore. However the Lucky Bay spit has also built out into the gulf across the former sand flats, thereby providing good access to deep water, as the sand flats narrow to 50 m in places. read more
