Red Cliff beach (617) is another 3.8 km long sand spit, that begins in lee of the low Red Cliff dunes, the northern entrance to Franklin Harbour, and extends to the east as a crenulate 100 to 200 m wide, low sand spit. It is backed by salt flats and fronted by the 3 km wide ebb tidal delta of Franklin Harbour. Access is via 4WD tracks along the backing ’mainland’ shore and across the drier samphire flats to the spit.
