American Beach (KI-43) lies 2 km northeast of the settlement and consists of a straight, 1.3 km long sand beach, fronted by a narrow bar, then seagrass meadows. It is bordered by low calcarenite bluffs in the west, by 50 m high sandstone bluffs in the east, and is backed by a 10 m high foredune, a grassy car park and the main Hog Bay Road.

Swimming

These are five relatively low wave beaches which are better at high tide, owing to the shallow bars and sand flats exposed at low tide. Watch for rocks and rock flats on some of the beaches.

Surfing

None.

Fishing

Better off the bluffs at high tide.

General

American Beach is a small settlement with no facilities other than the boat ramp, and the surrounding beaches.
