Red Banks is a prominent 20 to 30 m high, 2.5 km long escarpment lying immediately east of Morrison Beach (Fig. 5.4). The bluffs are composed of unconsolidated Quaternary outwash material, backed by cleared farmland. There is only public vehicle access to Red Banks (3), with the other beaches requiring a hike along the shore. The bluffs are scarped and undercut by occasional high waves, and a near continuous high tide beach lies at their base, with protruding parts of the bluffs breaking the beach into six sections (KI-17 to KI-22). Each of the beaches has a narrow sand and shelly high tide beach fronted by shallow sand flats, averaging 100 m off all the beaches expect Red Banks (2) and (4) where they narrow to less than 50 m. Red Banks (4) is a 50 m pocket of sand contained between protruding 20 m high bluffs. The coast swings slightly to the east past the bluffs and slightly higher waves arrive at both Red Banks (6) and beach KI-23, resulting in low surf and a narrow, continuous attached bar.
Beach Length: 0.95km
