Rocky River flows through a narrow, 2 km long gorge to reach the coast in a 100 m wide gap bordered by 80 m high valley sides. The creek meanders through the gorge to emerge on a 60 m wide sand beach (KI-140) which is awash with creek flow and waves. The valley sides extend out into the surf for 100 m, with the 300 m wide surf zone continuing either side of the bay (Fig. 5.24). A strong permanent rip flows seaward from the beach. The beach can be reached along a 1.5 km walking track from the Snake Lagoon car park. It is well worth the walk out, however use extreme caution if entering the surf.
