Sanderson Bay is a 3 km wide bay, bounded by Cape Younghusband in the east and a protruding, unnamed headland in the west, which provides some protection to the western half of the bay. Tucked into the apex of the bay are three small beaches, all lying below cliffs and bluffs. Apart from a 4WD track that terminates above the cliff 400 m east of the first beach, there is no vehicle access to the shore. Beach KI-129 is a 60 m long pocket of sand located at the base of sloping, sand-covered, 20 m high bluffs, and bordered by rock platform-fringed headlands. A single bay-controlled rip drains the 100 m wide surf. One hundred metres to the west is beach KI-130, a similar, 130 m long beach, with two headland-controlled rips under low waves, and one large rip during higher waves. Beach KI-131 lies 200 m further west and is in a more protected location, backed by 60 m high bluffs and bordered by massive granite headlands. It faces east and receives waves between 1 and 1.5 m high. The southern half of the beach is fronted by rock reef, with a small sand surf zone in the northern corner which has a permanent rip against the rocks.
