The entire southern coast of Kangaroo Island is a high energy, wave and wind-dominated shoreline, with high energy rip-dominated beaches, backed by massive sand dunes extending in places several kilometres inland and to elevations of well over 100 m. Between False Cape and the Wilson River, 10 km to the east, are four exposed, high energy beaches, typical of this coastline.
The first lies at the base of 50 to 80 m high, cleared bluffs 1 km east of the cape. It is a high tide sand and cobble beach (KI-62), backed by a small foredune and fronted by a 50 m wide rock platform, composed of steeply dipping sandstone.
