The main Bales Beach (KI-95) is a slightly curving, 1.9 km long beach, bordered by 20 m high headlands, with a 500 m long platform west of the car park and scattered reefs lying off the beach. This more exposed beach receives waves averaging almost 2 m, which break both on the outer reefs and outer bar, and again on the inner bar, which has two beach rips, together with three reef-controlled rips. The Bales Beach car park is located toward the western end of the beach, with moderately active dunes backing the central-eastern section.
