Vivonne Bay is the only township and port on the entire south coast of Kangaroo Island. Point Ellen, at the western end of the bay, provides sufficient shelter for the fishing fleet to moor in its lee, and for the 100 m long jetty. Most of the bay swings around to the east and extends for 6 km, terminating at high cliffs. There are four beaches in the bay area, the eastern two being accessible by road, the western two requiring a walk along the beach. Beach KI-109 lies 4 km east of the main Vivonne Bay beach car park. It is a 600 m long, south facing beach bordered by a prominent eastern headland and smaller western head, together with reefs off the eastern end and calcarenite beachrock fronting the swash zone. It receives waves averaging 2 m, which maintain a rip-dominated double bar system, with usually one central rip and rips adjacent to each headland. There is a 4WD track leading to the rear of the beach
