The Wilson River has cut a deep, V-shaped valley which has been partially filled by river, beach and dune sands to form the 300 m long Murray Flat beach (KI-65). The beach is accessible via a road, then a farm track which follows the Wilson River and terminates on the western headland, providing excellent views of the beach and surf. Waves average 2 m and, together with the beach and boundary rocks and headland, maintain two strong permanent rips which flow well seaward (Fig. 5.12). The river is usually closed, but when open provides an additional hazard.
