The Merdayerrah Sandpatch backs the main beach. The beach (1454) is 8.5 km long and entirely backed by the active white, calcareous dunes, that in places extend 1 km inland, climbing the backing 90 m high slopes to reach the crest of the Nullarbor Plain. Where this occurs, it provides an easy, though steep, walking track down to the shore. The beach, while partly controlled by deeper reefs, is dominated by a series of rips across the inner bar.

Swimming

All the platform beaches are unsuitable owing to the dominance of the rock platforms, while the main beach is both difficult to access and dominated by rips.

Surfing

There are beach and reef breaks on the main beach, however you will have to walk down and back up the sand dune to reach the shore.

Fishing

Most local fishers head down the tracks to fish from the rock platforms.

General

The most western beach system in South Australia and a fitting backdrop to the massive Nullarbor Cliffs and the border to Wilson Bluff.
