Between these bluffs and the headlands in lee of Black Rocks is 5 km long beach 847, a curving west to southwest facing moderate to high energy each, backed by active sand dunes. Several large beach rips dominate the 300 m wide surf zone, together with a permanent rip at the eastern end. The beach terminates at bluffs which protrude part way across the beach. On the other side of the bluffs is 300 m long beach 848 which is bordered by the prominent Black Rocks headland. It has a strong permanent rip against the headland rocks (Fig. 4.141).
