Hill Bay lies 3 km northeast of Point Drummond and is an open west facing bay, backed by 30 m high bluffs, but protected by a line of granite reefs running off the southern point. The reef provides a rare safe anchorage on this exposed section of coast, which is used by professional fishermen to temporarily moor their boats (Fig. 4.149). Inside the 1.5 km wide bay are two 200 m long beaches. The southern beach (1004) faces north toward the moorings, and consists of a protected narrow strip of sand at the base of sand draped 30 m high bluffs. There is a car park on top of the bluff providing a view of the bay. On the north side of the bay is beach 1005, which faces west, but is afforded protected by the reef filled bay, with low waves breaking across a shallow reef immediately off the beach. It is backed by the bluffs, with a steep climb required to reach the beach.
Beach Length: 0.2km
General Hazard Rating: 2/10
