The western bay beach (811) lies in lee of Cutra Rocks which lowers the waves to 1.5 m. The 700 m long south facing beach has a predominately sand beach and 200 m wide surf zone, with rocks and reef increasing toward the eastern end. It usually has two beach rips and three permanent rips. Its neighbour beach 812 faces southwest and receives some protection from the rocks and Cape Tournefort. It also has a 200 m wide surf zone with two beach rips and boundary permanent rips. Both beaches are backed by 10 to 20 m high bluffs, with a blufftop 4WD track from Cape Tournefort reaching the western end of Jussieu bay (beach 811).
