The beach face almost due west and receive the full brunt of westerly wind waves generated within the bay. As a consequence, all are fronted by 200 to 300 m wide sand flats containing three to four low ridges, backed by a narrow high tide beach and usually stable low foredune, with low rocky bluffs to each end, except for 774 which is backed by continuous bluffs. Beach 774 is 900 m long.
