The beach face almost due west and receive the full brunt of westerly wind waves generated within the bay. As a consequence, all are fronted by 200 to 300 m wide sand flats containing three to four low ridges, backed by a narrow high tide beach and usually stable low foredune, with low rocky bluffs to each end, except for 774 which is backed by continuous bluffs. Beach 774 is 900 m long.

Swimming

The Stamford Hill and Spalding Cove picnic areas are the most popular locations and, like all the beaches, are relatively safe for swimming, with deeper water over the seagrass meadows being the only hazard.

Surfing

None.

Fishing

Better out in the bay over the seagrass meadows.

General

Twelve pristine, low energy beaches all dominated by sand flats and seagrass meadows, with picnic and camping areas at six of the beaches.
