North Shield beach (751) is a curving 6.2 km long sand beach, that begins in the east against bedrock slopes that gradually rise to 50 m. Here the beach is fronted by 400 m wide sand flats containing up to 12 low ridges. The beach gradually trends west, then southwest toward the small North Shields settlement and jetty. The sand flats narrow to 100 m at the jetty. Most of the beach is backed by a foredune, with some dune activity in the north, then 1 km wide salt flats. At the settlement the beach is eroding into the dunes and low bluffs south of the jetty. As a consequence a rock wall has been constructed to protect the road. A small creek crosses the beach just south of the jetty, south of which is a beachfront caravan park.
Beach Length: 6.5km
