Beach 1088 lies opposite the Baird Bay settlement, and its development as a series of recurved spits has narrowed the inlet. Today the southeast facing 800 m long beach is a relatively stable, low waves beach. There are however strong tidal currents in the deep channel off the eastern end, while to the west seagrass covered sand flats widen to 400 m.
