A dog fence and maintenance track runs due south from the Eyre Highway. It reaches the coast at a more prominent 3.5 km section of 20 m high calcarenite bluffs, where the fence terminates at the edge of the bluffs. The track provides 4WD access to the coast and beaches and tracks to either side, including the western end of the Ocock beach and dunes. The four beaches along this 20 km long section of coast and their backing dune systems are all contained in the Wahgunyah Conservation Reserve. In amongst the bluffs are two bluff and reef dominated beaches. Beach 1409 lies immediately west of the end of the dog fence. It consists of a 50 m pocket of high tide sand surrounded by steep vegetated bluffs, and fronted by an intertidal platform, then a 400 m wide surf zone, with wave breaking on outer shore parallel calcarenite (beachrock) reefs. Four hundred metres to the west is a second bluff-backed beach (1410) an irregular beach consisting of a few pockets of sand in indentations in the bluffs, and a reef and rip dominated inner surf zone, with the same reef and surf offshore.
Beach Length: 0.8km
General Hazard Rating: 9/10
