Galway Bay is a 650 m long north facing beach bordered by protruding low metasedimentary rock platforms. A boat ramp is located on the western platform, while about 20 shack and the North Coast Road back the usually low energy beach (456). The beach is however exposed to west through northerly wind waves which are sufficient to maintain an attached bar, with 2 to 3 rips cutting through a shallow second bar, in addition to rock outcrops in the surf.
