Couchs Beach (454) extends east of the calcarenite bluffs for 9.5 km to a large sandy foreland. The Pines settlement occupies 1 km of the beachfront, while much of the shore either side of the foreland is part of Leven Beach Conservation Park. The foreland has built out into the gulf up to 3.5 km leaving behind a series of up to 60 low foredune ridges, largely covered in natural vegetation. The beach itself has a low energy to calm high tide beach (Fig. 4.95), fronted by flat to ridged sand flats up to 400 m wide.
