Abbotsbury Beach (T 57) commences on the southern side of the Hummock and curves to the south for 3.8 km to the mouth of Ansons Bay at Policemans Point. The beach forms a 500 m wide barrier, which has impounded the 450 ha lagoon. It is exposed to southerly waves, which maintain a rip-dominated 50-100 m wide surf zone with usually 10 rips forming along the beach. The inlet exits in lee of a rock reef, which has permitted an ebb tide delta to extend 200 m seaward in lee of the rocks, forming a right-hand surf break along the northern side of the shoals. The beach is backed by a mixture of active and vegetated transgressive dunes extending 100-200 m in across the barrier and reaching 20 m in height.
