Gardiner Point is marked by two 200 m long ridges of rock that trend to the northwest across the outer river mouth. Beach T 901 is located at the base of the ridges, with another 100 m long ridge forming its eastern boundary. The 50 m long pocket beach is sheltered from direct wave attack, with a small bar filling the inner area between the ridges, and the deep water of the river channel running just outside the end of the ridges. Two car parks are located immediately east of the beach.
