Cowrie Point lies 300 m east of Brickmakers Bay and is associated with three small beaches (T 996-998) (Fig. 4.217). Beach T 996 is located along the western side of the low rocky point. It faces west and consists of a high tide cobble beach fronted by 100-150 m wide intertidal rock flats. Waves averaging over 1 m break across the low rocky point and reefs, with waves usually less than 0.5 m at the shore. A few houses are located between the southern end of the beach and the highway. Beach T 997 is located on the eastern side of the point and backs onto the cobble ridge of beach T 996 forming a low 50 m wide tombolo. It is a curving 100 m long east-facing sand and cobble beach fronted by a small rocky bay that drains at low tide, and has waves breaking across the 100 m wide entrance at high tide. Waves are usually low to calm at the shore. Beach T 998 is located immediately to the east and consists of a curving 200 m long north-facing beach, bounded by low rocky points that converge to form a 100 m wide gap. Waves are lowered by the rocks and gap to less than 1 m at the shore. They break across a high tide reflective beach with 100-150 m wide low tide terrace extending out to the converging rock reefs at low tide. Dense scrub, a house, and then the highway back the beach.
